"My landscapes are me, I could always paint them".
Nelly van Nieuwenhuijzen is an experienced Dutch painter who has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. She is primarily inspired by her surroundings in beautiful Zeeland: openness, intensity of colour movement and undertones of mysticism. Each of these elements plays an important role in her rich landscapes. Her aesthetic feels rhythmic and strong, nuanced and emotional.

Nelly van Nieuwenhuijzen is a contemporary painter born in the Netherlands in 1944. Landscapes and women/doll faces are her main subjects. (other subjects were cats, roses and abstracts).
Nelly Nieuwenhuijzen started her professional career as an artist in 1975. Inspiration comes from her surroundings: the sky, skylines, dikes and the sea. Zeeland is known for its special, beautiful light: it refracts in the water around the islands and the polders. Her landscapes hold a special place in the long tradition of Dutch landscape painters.
"Van Nieuwenhuijzen's landscapes are expansive, born out of an intense experience of the vastness of the Zeeland region. An undertone of mysticism is unmistakable. As if captured in line and colour, movement continues in the invisible beyond the horizon. The accentuated line is both border and window. The subtle differences in rhythm and nuance reflect a range of emotions." (C. Bos)
Her works are in the collections of major companies such as Dow Chemical, BASF, Rank Xerox etc. and in many private collections around the world.
One critic wrote about her: This Zealand artist shows that in art personality is more important than originality. (Sietse Postma, a respected critic of KUNSTBEELD, an art magazine in the Netherlands).
Van Nieuwenhuijzen has had lessons, but considers herself self-taught.
